Going Green:  Is There an App for That?

The recent release of Apple’s iPad in Canada got me thinking: are there environmentally friendly apps for the
iPhone?  When I think of technology helping the environment, I tend to think of new technologies helping to reduce emissions from heavy industry, or similar innovations.  The popularity of the iPhone and the new (okay, new to Canada) iPad made me wonder…the environment – is there an app for that? I did a little research to see what iPhone apps might help make a person just a little more environmentally friendly.  Every bit helps!  Here are some apps I found.

Owning a car has significant environmental impacts.  This app for Zipcar makes it that much easier not to own a car.  Now let’s say you took the TTC or road your bike to work all week, but this weekend you would like a car for an hour to buy groceries, this app will help you find a Zipcar car-share quickly and easily.

When you aren’t reading the Greenscroll blog, you might want to try the Ecoble blog.  There is an (web) app for that.

How about the Greenpeace Guide to Green Electronics?  That sounds worth a read on the morning subway commute, and it just might have some tips you can use.

Riding your bike is a great/green way to go!  This bike training log can help keep you organized and motivated.
