Greenscroll's mission is to power the Internet by green renewable energy to help save the Earth.

How we started
In January 2009, Nikolai and Sasha were amazed to accidentally discover that the Internet's carbon footprint had caught up to the aviation industry. As Web entrepreneurs themselves, they realized that their online companies were contributing to this problem. However, their presence was a drop in the ocean when you look at the Internet as a whole, and the pace at which it is expanding. So they decided to make a difference, and the concept of Greenscroll was born. They needed a third member of the team, and Sasha recalled meeting John at a networking event in October 2008 who was on the same page -- they reconnected, and the project was a go.

What we do
Greenscroll aggregates small monthly pledges from individuals and companies who have a Web presence, and invests those funds into green renewable energy to reduce the carbon footprint of the Internet. As we all know, electricity is the lifeblood of the Internet. By promoting green renewable energy, Greenscroll reduces the demand of polluting brown electricity, and therefore makes the Internet more environmentally friendly.

Our philosophy
We are a non-profit movement because we believe in fighting global warming and not profiting from it. We also believe that this is a community effort, and therefore will be asking you to send us comments and feedback on such things as which projects we should be funding, which people in the industry we should be connecting with and how to achieve the greatest impact. To reinforce our beliefs, Greenscroll is completely virtual and paperless -- the team collaborates using Webex, Skype, Google Talk and Apps, e-mail, SMS texts and other digital tools. But, if you do want to meet us, we like Starbucks Wi-Fi hotspots!
